McLaren Automotive Partners with Bowers & Wilkins for Audio Systems

McLaren Automotive recently announced that they will be entering a long-term partnership with the highly respected high-end audio brand Bowers & Wilkins. This new partnership will make Bowers & Wilkins the Official Audio Partner of McLaren, with their high-performance audio systems going into the brand’s high-performance vehicles.

Although this is a new partnership, the two brands have been working together since 2015, as Bowers & Wilkins has been responsible for creating the audio systems found in McLaren’s supercars and hypercars. The two companies are also located just 30 miles apart in the UK, allowing their engineering teams to work closely together.

Bowers & Wilkins is known for pushing the envelope when it comes to loudspeaker capabilities. The company’s goal is to reveal as much of the original recording as possible without distorting or changing the intended sound. The need to push the limits of what is possible using technology is something that McLaren and Bowers & Wilkins share a passion for.

Some of the audio technology pioneered by Bowers & Wilkins over the past few years include the brand’s famous yellow Aramid Fiber cones, Rohacell subwoofers, Diamond dome tweeters, dual-opposed subwoofers, and proprietary Continuum® cone. They have also received two iF design awards for the system integrations of their audio equipment in the McLaren Speedtail and GT models.

As part of the new partnership, the brands will work even closer together and begin integrating audio equipment like subwoofers into the carbon fiber monocoque to ensure a stiff and inert mounting surface to enable better sound.
