Many car enthusiasts decorate their bedroom walls with a ‘hero poster’ during their formative years. For ATP tennis star Hubert (Hubi) Hurkacz, preparing for the US Open Championships, his chosen icon was the legendary McLaren P1TM hypercar. Specifically, it was the enduring P1 OOV, a significant member of McLaren’s heritage fleet, that held a special place in his heart and fueled his childhood dreams in Wroclaw, Poland.
McLaren, The Americas was able to help fulfill Hubi’s ‘bucket list’ dream. They provided him with expert guidance and a day behind the wheel of the McLaren 765LT Spider. Instead of delivering serves at speeds exceeding 150mph, the tennis ace embraced the high-octane experience, pushing the pinnacle of ‘Longtail’ performance to its limits on the desert track.
It’s insane, being a kid growing up in Poland and having the P1 on my wall – which is still there – to now being able to drive these dream cars on track. This was an incredible learning opportunity and I’ve discovered just how quick this car is. The grip and balance on the track… the 765LT is totally amazing. To drive at the speed of one of my serves was quite the experience!
